WINTER SKINCARE ESSENTIALS
Our skin endures a barrage of change when it comes to the cooler months. From environmental effects of the colder temperature to the constant exposure to drying elements of the indoors, this can wreak havoc on our skin. So here are our tips for keeping your skin looking youthful, hydrated and glowing during those winter months.
#1 Don’t forget your SPF
Just because it is winter, it doesn’t mean we should put a stop to the good old SPF. While UVB levels may have decreased we are still exposed to UVA which can significantly affect the aging of the skin. So ensure you are using a good quality SPF which will protect your skin throughout the day and keep your skin looking youthful and fresh. Don’t forget that our skincare makeup contains a natural built in sunblock for extra protection & to keep those UV rays at bay.
#2 Keep your skin hydrated
As it gets cooler your skin will naturally become drier & often more sensitive due to the elements. Make sure to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. Incorporate a face oil or spray into your daily skincare routine. They are usually the missing link in our skincare routines which assist with nourishing and hydrating the skin due to the important vitamins, minerals & antioxidants they contain to keep the skin smooth and youthful. Our favourite all year-round face spray is our Hydrating Mist which not only soothes and hydrates the skin but also acts to set your mineral makeup and can be reapplied throughout the day, plus it smells divine.
#3 Tweak your skincare routine
Gentle cleansing is a must! If you find yourself reaching for moisturiser immediately after cleansing than you are more than likely disrupting the skins barrier. Your skin should feel calm and hydrated after washing to retain vital moisture and keep it as healthy as possible, so consider a gentle cleanser which will balance out the skin and prevent any unnecessary breakouts from over producing natural oils within the skin. Also trying to swap your lotion for a cream which contains antioxidants to assist with a more hydrating & soothing effect. Lightly massage into the skin for 20-30 seconds and allow for full absorption into the skin prior to applying makeup.
#4 Step up your exfoliation
Ok we all know how important exfoliation is for getting rid of dry dead skin cells, so make sure you continue this during the colder months. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week with a good quality gentle exfoliant makes such a difference with improving the texture of the skin and minimising the signs of aging but don’t stop at your face! Regularly exfoliate & moisture the body to help with keeping your skin refresh & glowing.
#5 Time to see the skin professionals
Winter is the perfect time of year to get those skin treatments we worry about during the summer months due to sun exposure. So let’s take this opportunity to help stimulate new collagen and restore skin glow by getting a well deserved peel or laser treatment as there is less risk of unwanted post-hyperpigmentation.
#6 Its bath time
Now who doesn’t love a good relaxing bath soak! Bath time is the ultimate relaxation time to switch off skin damaging stress hormones and is a gift for dry winter skin. Introduce a luxurious bath oil to assist with skin hydration while treating your mind, body & spirit to the well-deserved time out we are crying for. If you suffer from skin sensitivities such as eczema then this the perfect time soothe, calm and hydrate just ensure you are using a gentle bath oil which will also assist with reducing itching.
